Derek’s guide to: Zines
Share
Derek has been getting creative lately and wanted to tell you all about his favourite way to express his art, through zines!
“Did you know that July is "International Zine Month”? It was started by Alex Wrekk to celebrate zines and independent publishing.
‘But Derek, what is a zine?’ I hear you cry, WELL, a zine is a small, self published booklet of various sizes and content, featuring lots of images and text. AND did you know that the first zines were first published as long ago as 1930?! Before computers and even printers? Like, how did they make them?? (I think I will look into that for another story I think)
I like to make mine using collage, and I can make a single sheet of paper into an 8 page booklet. Like actual magic!
Zines can be about anything! I’ve made mine about my favourite donuts, the last board game we played, the different wildlife creatures in our garden, and my even favourite flower.

I thought I would let you all have a go so I’ve asked Tracy to make a download and print zine instructions with a blank zine template so you can make one yourself!
Why not have a go at making your own zine and let me know what you create!”
Tracy Says:
I create the adventures of Derek and Irene as a zine, they’ve been to space, played tabletop games, organised snacks for board game night, found out how rainbows are made, and even visited Sherwood Forest to meet their new friends Robin Hood and Little John (The hide and seek champion)
