Fun Facts about the Ankylosaurus
This September sees Hank the Ankylosaurus as our Dinosaur of the Month!
The Ankylosaurus is probably one of the most recognisable dinosaurs with it's body covered in bony armour and plates to protect itself and the distinct club like tail, but read on to find out more about our favourite living tank and find out what Hank's role is in the world of Derek and Irene.
Facts about Hank the Ankylosaurus
- Lived in North America during the late Cretaceous Period (68-66 mya)
- Weighed approximately 4.5-7 tonnes (About the same as a hippopotamus or Elephant Seal)
- Lived on a vegetarian diet of ferns and leaves
- Could be as long as 7.5 -10.5 metres long
- Had a top speed of about 3 mph
- Most of it's body was covered in armour plating or spikes to protect it from predators but it had a soft under belly that wasn't protected.
- Ankylosaurus is mostly known for it's massive club at the end of it's tail, made of fused bones it was a formidable weapon against any predators
- Ankylosaurus means "Fused Lizard"
What about Hank?
Hank is the librarian of Derek and Irene's world and is often helping Derek and Irene find new books to read or listen to. Hank plays the paladin in their home brewed fantasy TTRPG and he is featured in Issue 6 The Novel Adventures of Derek and Irene.
His favourite books to read are historical romances and murder mysteries, and he uses a bookmark, he isn't a monster.
